IONOS (formerly known as 1&1 Internet) was founded in Germany in 1988 and is a web hosting behemoth with 2,000 employees, 10 data centers, more than 90,000 servers, and 8 million customer contracts globally. In comparison, Datanyze reports that IONOS has a 6.86% market share of web hosting, which puts it ahead of everyone except Google Cloud (7.82%), Amazon AWS (10.96%), and GoDaddy (14.99%).
IONOS offers plans for a broad variety of hosting types and needs. For personal and small company websites, low-cost shared hosting, a website builder, and managed WordPress plans are ideal.
More powerful VPS and dedicated hosting have the tools to handle more demanding business and ecommerce sites (and if you’re looking for web stores, managed WooCommerce hosting is also available). Developers and advanced users will appreciate the Windows ASP.NET hosting and the Github-friendly Deploy Now options. Do you require even more power? IONOS’ high-powered and ultra-reliable cloud servers have the means to handle even the most demanding, feature-rich, and mission-critical websites.
Shared hosting is a method of hosting multiple webpages on the same server. It’s inexpensive because server expenses are shared among all accounts. Performance may suffer as a result of many sites sharing the same CPU, RAM, and network link. A decent shared hosting package, on the other hand, has more than enough power for most low-traffic blogs, personal websites, and small business websites.
IONOS offers three different shared hosting options. Highlights include free SSL, a free domain, free daily backups, and simple WordPress implementation. The single site starter package is reasonably priced at $4 per month in the first year and $6 per year after that. The mid-tier Business plan boosts speeds by adding more resources, supports limitless websites, and is only $0.50 per month for the first year, then $10 per month after that, thanks to a fantastic introductory offer.
The most expensive Expert plan adds even more resources, as well as SiteScan malware protection, a Content Delivery Network (CDN), and analytics to watch your website traffic, but it’s still only $8 per month in the first year, and $16 per year after that. On the downside, IONOS does not provide free migration to assist with the import of your site from a previous host, and all plans include only one email address. It’s adequate (2GB inbox, spam screening), but it’s useless if you require more.
If email isn’t a problem, but price is, consider Hostinger and HostGator for their low starting prices, extended email capabilities, and extensive feature lists. If you’re looking for speed, A2 Hosting and InMotion Hosting go above and beyond the fundamentals with plenty of advanced performance-boosting technology. WordPress is a popular website creation tool that can be used to build anything from a basic personal website to a large and feature-rich international web shop.
IONOS Managed WordPress hosting plans are almost identical to the shared range in terms of pricing (special offer of $0.50 per month for the mid-tier plan, $3 to $8 per month for the other plans, $6 to $8 on renewal), and the main features are similar: free domain, free SSL, no free migration, but you do get daily backups.
There are also significant variations. Because of improved email support, the mid-tier plan now supports five email accounts, while the top-tier plan supports ten. All plans include malware scanning, and the best plan can remove any threats discovered. There is also one major disadvantage: while shared hosting plans allow for limitless websites, you can only have one managed WordPress project.
WordPress-specific additions include the WP Assistant, which can create a basic initial site for you, automated WordPress updates, and free themes (pre-built website designs), which can be useful if you want to give your site a new look and feel. There’s nothing spectacular here, but these plans provide slightly more WordPress capability for the same price, which works for us. If you want to learn WordPress, only create small or simple sites, and speed isn’t an issue, getting a year of the Business plan for $6 is a steal.
The IONOS WP Pro line is intended for corporate users or anyone who requires additional features and speed. According to IONOS, additional server resources result in a 300% rise in overall speed. There are automated and manual backups, smarter automatic updates to reduce the possibility of a buggy security fix breaking your site, and the ability to preview website changes before going live.
All of this authority comes at a price. To get started with the full speed advantages, you’ll need the Advanced WP Pro plan, which starts at $40 per month on an annual basis ($48 billed monthly). However, this is a fair price for what you get, and IONOS WP Pro is worth considering for business users or anyone with big or high-traffic sites. Check out Bluehost’s WP Pro plans if you’re more concerned with functionality than with price. (yes, they do have the same name). The speeds are fast, and they include more business-related tools, such as SEO tools and analytics to track website visitors. If cost is absolutely critical, A2 Hosting’s managed WordPress range provides top performance and a plethora of features starting at $23.99 per month.
