Seattle, Washington-based Amazon Fresh is a division of the American online retailer Amazon. It is a grocery retailer with physical sites and delivery services in the majority of significant American cities as well as certain foreign cities, including Berlin, Hamburg, London, Milan, Munich, Rome, Tokyo, and a few additional places in Singapore and India. In the US and the UK, Amazon Fresh built several physical outlets in 2020. The first store opened in the Los Angeles region, and then others followed in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.
As an additional grocery delivery service for Amazon Prime subscribers, Amazon Fresh launched in 2007. On March 4, 2021, the Ealing Broadway Centre shopping center in Ealing, West London, welcomed the opening of the first Amazon Fresh location in Europe. The apparel store Monsoon Accessorize had formerly resided on the property. On May 27, 2021, an Amazon Fresh grocery store opened in the Franconia, Virginia, neighborhood of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan region. On June 17, 2021, Amazon Fresh launched a store in the Bellevue neighborhood of Seattle employing “Just Walk Out” technology, which enables consumers to buy their groceries without having to wait in line at the register. On July 22, 2021, Amazon Fresh opened its first store in Washington, D.C., using “Just Walk Out” technology, in the Logan Circle neighborhood.
In the Philadelphia suburb of Warrington, the first Amazon Fresh grocery shop in Pennsylvania debuted on August 5, 2021. There will be two more in Bensalem and Broomall. According to reports from September and November 2021 and June 2022, respectively, an Amazon Fresh grocery shop would be opening in Braintree and Saugus, Massachusetts, as well as one in Billerica, Massachusetts. It was announced that an Amazon Fresh grocery shop would open in Leominster, Massachusetts, on August 29, 2022. A Westborough, Massachusetts, Amazon Fresh grocery shop was announced to launch on November 23, 2022. The first grocery store to ever be located within a mall, Ross Park Mall in Pittsburgh will soon be home to Amazon Fresh. The store is anticipated to debut in the spring of 2023. On November 17, 2022, it was announced that all future Amazon Fresh grocery shop construction has been put on hold indefinitely “waiting for examination of the operation.” On February 28, 2023, Amazon announced that it would begin collecting delivery costs for Prime orders under $150.
Along with a selection of goods from the main Amazon.com marketplace, Amazon Fresh also sells groceries. Depending on the time of the order and the availability of delivery slots, items ordered through Amazon Fresh are available for home delivery either the same day or the following day. In contrast to Whole Foods, which is also owned by Amazon, Amazon Fresh runs on its own. They sell different inventories from various facilities. According to Amazon’s market research, Amazon Fresh consumers are more likely to be Hispanic or, more specifically, Asian than Whole Foods customers, and they also tend to have lower incomes.
In the states of California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Washington, Washington, D.C., and New York/New Jersey in July 2022, Amazon Fresh had 38 sites across the US. Amazon Fresh had 17 sites in London, UK, as of June 2022. 2 Amazon Fresh sites have been confirmed for Roseville and Stockton, California, as of September 2022.
