About CafeMom
Michael Sanchez and Andrew Shue created CafeMom in 2006. In 1999, the childhood friends founded CMI Marketing and, later, ClubMom, the forerunner to CafeMom. ClubMom was a website that offered parenting advice in the form of blogs, articles, and discussion boards. It also created a shopping rewards program in collaboration with advertisers. ClubMom lasted until 2007 when it was replaced by CafeMom. CafeMom went live on November 15, 2006. Many ClubMom members were encouraged to join CafeMom in order to help it grow. It was billed as a “MySpace for moms” shortly after its inception.
Andrew Shue came up with the idea for CafeMom after becoming a father and seeing how his wife relied on other mothers for support and knowledge. Shue and Sanchez recognized that there was a need for mothers to connect and talk with other women, but nothing was bringing them together.
Michael Sanchez was appointed CEO of the company prior to its launch. According to comScore, CafeMom became the most trafficked website for women within a year of its start. In 2008, the website had 8 million unique users each month and over 140 million page views. The website began a program in September 2008 to contribute $10 million to schools while increasing visitors to the site. The website added a games area in 2009.
CafeMom announced the debut of The Stir, a blog for moms that covers themes such as celebrity gossip, parenting issues, current affairs, and home décor, on March 30, 2010. It features articles regarding parenting and child-related issues that users can comment on and discuss. It also provides links to related stories on the site as well as similar pieces in the news, as well as links to Twitter and Facebook where members can continue the argument. Lindsay Ferrier of Suburban Turmoil is a fashion columnist for the journal after selling her style blog, She’s Still Got It, to CafeMom. CafeMom readers can write in and ask questions, seek fashion advice, and discuss trends on the blog, which is interactive.
Tina Fey was dubbed the “Sexiest Mom Alive” by a site in 2010. The site made $30 million in revenue in 2010. As of June 2010, the site had 70,000 different groups spanning from astrology to gardening. Yahoo! considered acquiring CafeMom for up to $100 million in August 2010. The pricing was negotiated between CMI Marketing and Yahoo. The Walt Disney Company was another interested party. The company started Daily Deals in May 2011 and revealed intentions for a Hispanic website. The website had 100 workers, $36 million in yearly revenue, and 7.6 million unique monthly users at the time. By 2012, the website had 9 million unique monthly visitors and had started a YouTube channel. The YouTube channel includes training videos as well as inspiring stories. Wild Sky Media purchased the website in June 2018.
CafeMom is a social networking site designed specifically for moms, with the aim of creating a community where mothers can connect, share advice, and support each other. Founded in 2006, the site has grown into a popular online destination for mothers worldwide, boasting over 6.5 million registered users. The site is free to join, and once a member, moms can create a profile, join groups, post updates, and share photos and videos. The site also features a range of discussion boards and forums, covering a variety of topics from parenting to relationships to health and fitness.
One of the most popular features of CafeMom is the groups, which are essentially forums where moms can connect with others who share similar interests or lifestyles. There are groups for moms of all ages, backgrounds, and interests, including groups for single moms, working moms, stay-at-home moms, and moms with special needs children. These groups are a great way to connect with other moms who are going through similar experiences and offer a supportive community.
In addition to the discussion boards and groups, CafeMom also offers a range of tools and resources to help moms navigate the challenges of parenting. The site has a wealth of information on everything from pregnancy and childbirth to child development and discipline. There are also articles and blog posts written by moms and parenting experts, covering a range of topics from nutrition to sleep to education.
One of the things that set CafeMom apart from other social networking sites is its commitment to safety and privacy. The site is moderated 24/7 to ensure that all content is appropriate and that there is no bullying or harassment. Members can also report any inappropriate content or behavior, and the site takes swift action to address any issues.
CafeMom has also expanded into the mobile space, with the launch of its mobile app in 2011. The app allows moms to access the site on the go and features many of the same tools and resources as the desktop site. The app also offers push notifications, so moms can stay up-to-date with the latest discussions and updates.
Overall, CafeMom is an excellent resource for moms looking to connect with other mothers, share advice and support, and access a range of tools and resources to help them navigate the challenges of parenting. Whether you are a first-time mom or a seasoned veteran, CafeMom has something to offer and is well worth checking out.
